Energizing the Future: Development of a 100 MW Solar Park and Transmission Facility in Siyambalanduwa

Development of a 100 MW Solar Park Facility in Siyambalanduwa, along with the Construction of a 132 kV Transmission Facility. This project was announced through a tender by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB), with the bid submission taking place on December 2nd, 2022. Our submission was presented as a consortium comprised of Lakdhanavi Limited, The Blue Circle Pte Ltd, and WindForce PLC, with Lakdhanavi Limited leading the consortium.

The Power Plant will be equipped with cutting-edge photovoltaic technology augmented with the battery storage for the first time in Sri Lanka and is designed to harness the abundant solar resources of the region. The park’s capacity to generate 100 MW of clean, renewable energy is equivalent to powering approximately 110,000 households, while offsetting an estimated 110,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.

Lakdhanavi Limited is the power generating arm of LTL Holdings, an organization with a proven track record in power plant development for over 25 years. The consortium includes The Blue Circle, a subsidiary of Acciona Energia, and WindForce PLC, who are the prominent players in the renewable energy arena. This historic initiative brings together Lakdhanavi Limited, along with industry leaders, to deliver the first-ever large-scale solar project in Sri Lanka.

The Letter of Intent (LOI) was officially granted on August 16th, 2023, by both the General Manager and the Chairman of CEB. This significant milestone was achieved at the CEB office, and a photograph capturing the moment is included for reference. Lakdhanavi Limited operates as a subsidiary under LTL Holdings Limited, an organization with a 25+ years of track record in power plant development. It is worth highlighting that this initiative marks a groundbreaking achievement as Sri Lanka’s large-scale solar project.

Distinguishing this endeavor is the incorporation of a cutting-edge 12MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) directly integrated with the solar plant infrastructure. This innovation represents a remarkable advancement for Sri Lanka, introducing sophisticated energy storage technology to the country’s renewable energy landscape for the very first time.
