LAKDHANAVI WINS FIVE HONORS AT ASIAN POWER AND ASIAN WATER AWARDS 2026

Sri Lankan engineering excellence recognized across power generation, technological innovation, water management and ESG .

At the recently held Asian Power Awards and Asian Water Awards 2026, Lakdhanavi Limited, a subsidiary  of the LTL Group secured five significant awards that clearly established the company’s capabilities in power generation and the engineering capabilities across the Asian region. Four of these awards were given to the 300MW Yugadanavi Combined Cycle Powerplant.

The award ceremony was held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 15th October 2026 and these awards brought Asia-wide recognition to Sri Lanka’s engineering enterprise extending from power plant development and operation to technological innovation and responsible resource management .

Lakdhanavi received three honors at the Asian Power Awards 2026 that included the prestigious Independent Power Producer of the Year award. Additionally, Yugadhanavi received the award for the Innovative Power Technology of the Year for its innovations in the heating of inlet gas turbine fuel (HFO) based on fuel viscosity as well as the award for the ESG Program of the year for the plant’s environmental, social and governance program of 2025.

Of particular note is the fact that Yugadanavi also received two additional honors at the Asian Water Awards 2026. The Yugadanavi seawater treatment plant won the award for Water Technology Excellence Award (Industrial) and its water reuse and recycling initiative won it the Water Reuse and Recycling Project of the Year award.

Collectively, the recognition that Lakdhanavi received highlighted the extent of engineering expertise that is required to build, operate and maintain modern power infrastructure with multiple dependencies that go beyond simple generating power and into the realm of continuous technological improvement, optimal resource management and responsible operational practices.

The Yugadanavi power station that was commissioned in 2010 has remained a vital component of the power generation infrastructure of the country for sixteen years and the recognition in has received at the Asian regional level has amply demonstrated the importance of engineering excellence throughout the operational life of a power plant.

In this context, the innovation award is particularly significant since it recognizes an engineering solution developed around an operational challenge that presented itself at an existing plant and not an entirely new technology. Asia’s acknowledgement of the solution that the Sri Lankan engineers implemented illustrated and underscored the role of continuous improvement in sustaining complex industrial infrastructure.

The two water awards are a testament to the fact that engineering capability must extend beyond the generation of electricity and showcases the importance of industrial water treatment, reuse and recycling as vital supportive functions to power generation and highlights the fact that Yugadanavi paid serious attention to these vital facets of responsible power plant operations.

Adding another dimension to the multipart operational methodologies is the ESG award by Yugadanavi powerplant and the commitment of Lakdhanavi Limited to broader environmental, social and governance responsibilities associated with industrial operations.

Of note is the fact that Lakdhanavi, as part of the LTL group have extended their power-sector development capabilities to regional and global markets encompassing the entire ecosystem of infrastructure development in the sector in design, construction, commission, operation and maintenance.

This portfolio of accolades together represent clear recognition of the engineering expertise of Sri Lanka across multiple disciplines and reflects the contributions of engineers, technicians and other professionals tasked with building and managing complex power infrastructure.

For Sri Lanka, for the entire Nation, this is a “Proud Sri Lankan” moment. This is not a win for just Lakdhanavi. This is a win for the Nation as a whole.

Sri Lankan engineering excellence. Recognized across Asia.
